On the basis of the work of the Brothers Grimm on the German dictionary, Annette Schmucki composes a music theatre for voices, instruments and video projections. The project is a cooperation between the Swiss ensemble proton bern and the Berlin based voice ensemble Maulwerker. It speaks of hunting and collecting the language, of exposing, conquering, taming the language mountain and its invincibility. Of two brothers, of their ceaseless working off words; day after day, door to door, in very different working tempi, techniques, types of well-being.
durst&frucht speaks about recognizing and acknowledging the gaps, the freedoms, the permanent change of language, its borderline phenomena, incomprehensibility, openness and about the Grimms, who finally die over the words »durst« and »frucht«.
One can hear words, word lists, word particles and scraps of narration. Pulses, clumps and fields. It is a crossover between music and language. A shift of language in music as well as of music in language. One can see flying words, opening mouths, sharpened pencils and ears, writing movements.
Performance in German.
