The quality of surfaces determines the type of contact. Smooth, rough, permeable or reflective, they mark the boundary between inside and outside, between things, bodies and the air that they make vibrate. In this concert, surfaces are brushed, rubbed and struck. Touches are acoustically enlarged, transformed and thrown into space, but they also work inwardly, physically and psychologically. They trigger our imagination. Compositions for voices and other materials.
Maulwerker are a vocal ensemble, music performers, music theatre makers, and a composer collective. They are specialists in the intersections of music and theatre, music and language, in the pervasion of music and space, of sound and silence.
In addition to the classics of new (vocal) music and experimental music theatre – such as Schnebel, Cage and Fluxus – more recent tendencies form the focus of the work and thus the active collaboration with contemporary composers, radio play authors, sound artists, and directors, including works by the ensemble members themselves.
