A continuously accessible, step-free, ground-level entrance (including a curb ramp) from the street to the building and to the hall, with a minimum width of 150 cm, is available. The ground surface in the courtyard is slightly uneven.
Most performances take place in the hall, which is on the ground floor.
The hall is entered through a 194 cm wide double door. There is then a second double door with an entry width of 180 cm. The third swing door, through which the audience enters the hall, is 136 cm wide. There is a wheelchair-accessible restroom on the ground floor of the building. Access to this restroom is via the corridor and is 198 cm wide. The restroom entrance is 79 cm wide. There is no elevator.
The bar is accessible on the ground level in the courtyard in good weather, but in bad weather it can only be reached via a staircase on the first floor. This bar is not wheelchair accessible. There are 17 steps between the ground floor and the first floor.
Barrier-free parking and restroom facilities are also available. However, the accessible parking spaces are only available on public streets; the theater cannot offer its own parking. In the event hall/area, space is available for wheelchairs or walkers, and there is the option for priority seating and/or early entry to the hall.
Not all events at Ballhaus Ost are barrier-free. We recommend inquiring in advance and making reservations via email or phone. Any extreme light or sound effects, as well as potentially disturbing content, will be indicated in the show announcements.
Tactile Guidance System
The guidance system works through wall-based orientation.
Entrance Driveway: Orientation is provided by the walls. Each wall is fitted with two display cases. These are 1.35 m long, 90 cm high, and project 15 cm into the driveway space. The lower edge of the display cases is positioned at a height of 1.20 m above the ground.
Conscious awareness of the display cases is important to avoid collisions. Guidance here is created solely through the physical presence of the wall-mounted objects—not through markings on the floor.
Ramp: The ramp leads to the main entrance door and into the entrance area, where the walls again provide orientation.
Corridor: The corridor is fitted with carpet. Between the corridor and the adjoining foyer, there is a double swing door.
Foyer: Following the wall guidance, a person is led to the ticket counter on the left; from there, continuing to the right leads to the auditorium. Turning 180 degrees from the ticket counter, the route leads along the opposite wall to the restrooms, which are located on the right-hand side.
