Das Queer-Performance-Kollektiv ONCE WE WERE ISLANDS macht multidisziplinäre Performance-Arbeiten, bei denen sie oft die Queer-konstruierte Sprache Damiá als künstlerisches Mittel einsetzen. Im Jahr 2023 verließen sie Berlin für ein neues Zuhause am Waldrand in Nordkarelien, Finnland.
