Organisms Democracy

Satellite venue for Ballhaus Ost | by Club Real

Who owns the city? Who lives in public green spaces and who decides what happens there? The organism democracy that has existed since 2019 on the green space at Osloer Str. 107/108 is finding completely new answers to these questions. All living beings in this community—from snails to ash maple trees to root nodule bacteria—have the same political rights. Since 2019, a parliament of living beings has been meeting once or twice a year to decide how to proceed with the area. Fifteen species are selected at random from the more than 400 citizen species to participate in the parliament of living beings via human representation.

Next Parliament: 6.6.2026, 16:00–19:00
Guided tours are always available upon request: organismendemokratie.org

The Organisms Democracy is part of the interactive map »City of Living Creatures« which tells the story of Berlin’s history from the perspective of plants, fungi, and many more. Tours depart regularly from the courtyard of Ballhaus Ost; more information here.

The artist group Club Real has been developing site-specific projects since 2000. Installations, political multispecies formats, and participatory urban development projects invite visitors to help shape alternative visions of reality.
