behind your eyeballs

Salma Said & Miriam Coretta Schulte

As part of »Introducing…« at Performing Arts Festival 2023

How can an archive come alive? Can an archive become a time hole through which we can climb into new futures?
These questions are seen into by Salma Said and Miriam Coretta Schulte who take us on a journey in their constructed futuristic video world. In a space designed by artist Jasmina Metwaly, between video projections and car tires, they explore the subversive video archive “858” of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution and the potential of choreographic mnemonic techniques. They travel with the audience through times and spaces on the sound of musician Leila Moon. For the performance, they invite a guest to share their stage and their archival practice. In Berlin this will be Matthias Monroy and the archive CILIP – Civil Liberties and Police.

Salma Said and Miriam Coretta Schulte are partners in crime, friendship and performance. Since 2018, the duo has been developing an artistic practice that combines situational knowledge of their different backgrounds and contexts, a desire to experiment with activism and political issues. Before both came to Berlin last year, Salma Said worked as a performer and actress in Cairo and Leipzig. Miriam Coretta Schulta was active as a performer and director in Giessen, Paris and Basel. »behind your eyeballs« is their first joint project. »Court Fantasies« follows and will premiere in May 2023.

N O T E: The show deals with topic of violence.
